Chocolate Banana Smoothie

I've seen this recipe a couple times on various websites, and apparently it tastes just like a Wendy's Frosty. Next time you're craving a cool treat, skip the drive through and whip out your blender. This recipe is ten-times healthier than anything you could get at Wendy's, or any other fast food joint for that matter.


  • 3/4 cup almond milk (try the "unsweetened" version to avoid added sugar)
  • About 15 ice cubes
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1-2 Tbsp of cocoa powder
  • 1 ripe banana
  • Blend all ingredients in a blender or Vita-mix.
  • Enjoy!

Nutrition Behind The Recipe: 

Almond milk lends a creamy texture and nutty flavor to this smoothie. Considering the health concerns associated with consuming cow's milk (see here), almond milk, or any plant-based milk, is a far superior option. 

Cocoa powder is a sweet/bitter extract from the cocoa bean. Unlike cocoa butter, which is also extracted from the cocoa bean and contains most of the fat and calories, cocoa powder is low in fat, high in beneficial nutrients, and still contains that cocoa flavor. When buying cocoa powder, look to buy from an organic, fair-trade supplier.
